And now for something deliciously different…
Interview with Olivier d’Arjou from Beckoning Blood, the fabulous new release from Daniel de Lorne.
Who are you?
I am Olivier d’Arjou, vampire (His grin opens wide to reveal long fangs) and perhaps the last person you’ll ever meet. (He chuckles then sits back.)
Tell us about your family?
There’s only one member of my family worth mentioning, and that’s my twin brother Thierry. The others are either dead or else annoying, like my witch sister. But who cares about them? You only need to worry about me, or maybe my brother. Depending on what mood he’s in, which is either a choice between sulking or brooding. (He sneers.) I still love him, though, and he loves me, as much as he tries to deny it.
Are you the hero of your own story?
I’m the hero of every story. Of course, it depends what your definition of a hero is. If it’s someone who takes on whatever threatens what’s rightfully his, then yes, I am that hero. If it’s someone who whines and moans about their lot in life, then yes, I’m the hero that gets rid of those people.
Some people just won’t stay dead – which is frustrating consider how good I am at snuffing out their miserable lives. Take my brother’s lover.
Seriously, take my brother’s lover.
Do you have a problem that wasn’t mentioned in the story?
No, they’re all there: family, enemies, rivals. But I treat them like I’d treat any problem: either scaring them off or killing them.
How do your friends see you?
Who needs friends?
How do your enemies see you?
With cold, dead eyes.
What do you think of yourself?
I’m amazing, don’t you agree? A vampire without equal, able to live wherever I want, take whatever I want and whomever I want, well, almost. But give me time. There is nothing I won’t overcome, and no shadow of a dead father or the scorn of a sister is going to stop me.
Does anything irritate you?
Witches, more than anything. Their superiority, thinking they can stick their noses in where it’s not welcome. (He wrinkles his nose.) They stink too.
Have you ever betrayed anyone?
(He sighs and rolls his eyes.) I’m sure there are people who think I’ve betrayed them but it’s not the case.
Do you keep your promises?
Only the ones I make to myself. Promises put you in another’s power. Do you think that’s me?
Are you lucky?
Yes, insofar as I make my own luck. When you’re as strong, as charismatic, and as deadly as I am, bad luck keeps its distance.
Have you ever had an adventure?
I’m over six hundred years old. What do you think?
If you had the power to change one thing in the world that didn’t affect you personally, what would it be?
I only care about the things that affect me, but, if pressed (see how accommodating I can be?), I’d increase the number of litres of blood in the human body.
How do you envision your future?
Long and full with all the best things: blood and sex. So pretty much like it is now.
Wow, thanks Daniel for this great interview. Now for the blurb and the important stuff, like where can I purchase Beckoning Blood.
A gripping, blood‐drenched saga about twin brothers, the men they love, and the enduring truth that true love never dies — no matter how many times you kill it.
Thierry d’Arjou has but one escape from the daily misery of his work at a medieval abattoir — Etienne de Balthas. But keeping their love a secret triggers a bloody chain of events that condemns Thierry to a monstrous immortality. Thierry quickly learns that to survive his timeless exile, he must hide his sensitive heart from the man who both eases and ensures his loneliness…his twin brother.
Shaped by the fists of a brutal father, Olivier d’Arjou cares for only two things: his own pleasure and his twin. But their sadistic path through centuries is littered with old rivals and new foes, and Olivier must fight for what is rightfully his — Thierry, made immortal just for him.

Daniel de Lorne writes mostly about the loves and trials of hot and sexy paranormal men – and creatures. He grew up in Perth, Western Australia, and developed a fascination for the mythical and magical early on. Daniel wrote stories from a young age but it was high school biology class he remembers fondly as providing an excellent cover for writing stories that were filled with teen angst and fantastical creatures. He now lives in Canada with his partner. It was while in this great northern frontier that Escape Publishing accepted his first book, Beckoning Blood, for publication.
